Charles (the Lock) Smith didn't just win at Hollywood Park Casino (June 9th, 2007) he Slammed and Dominated everyone who sat across the table from him and I mean everyone (including the best player in the PDA Jerome "the King" Wooten). Smith who is an Obvious Giant ( formerly Young Hoggs) team member Proved why he was (voted last year) and is still (this year) the most consistent player in the PDA, after missing a few tournaments in the early part of the season smith had finished near the top of the Pyramid in 3 of the 5 tournaments he played in (3rd, 2nd, 3rd) so it was only a matter of time before he finally made it to the top and unfortunately for those who played in the PDA Tournament on Saturday, June 9th, at Hollywood Park Casino this was the time...

Smith started the day by Dominating Redd Watson-3rd round (Kansas City Dominator) (150-105, 105-150, 150-35, 150-140)he then ran through Sam Mc Neal-4th round (150-85, 150-130, 150-115) without much of a problem. Next up was Keith Morgan-5th round (Bay Area Bone Slammers) as Smith Slammed him against the wall & "Locked" him out of the possibility of being in the winners circle (150-65, 150-80, 150-130). Then came the Big test "King" Jerome Wooten-6th round (Kansas City Dominators) arguably the best player in the PDA and the #1 Player on the Kansas City Dominators, but today the invincible, unbeatable & King was no match for "the Lock" as Smith treated Wooten with the same disdain and malcontent as his previous victims beating Wooten (150-120, 95-150, 150-35, 150-105). I don't know if it's fair to say but judging from how Smith treated Wooten it seemed that coming into the Championship Round Robin Murphy didn't stand a chance as he had already lost 5 games (12-5) and struggled through the 5th and 6th rounds barely getting past Jose Garcia in the 5th round 3 games to 2 and Alex Esver in the 6th round 3 games to 2. Playing in a PDA tournament can be grueling, both mentally and physically and maybe Garcia & Esver took enough fight out of Murphy for him to put up little or no fight against an "Obvious Giant" like Charles Smith who up to this point had only lost 2 games (12-2) with only 1 of those loses coming at the hands of Jerome Wooten.

Charles "the Lock" Smith was well rested when Murphy finally finished his battle with Alex "the Model" Esver. Murphy had no time to freshen up, bandage his (mental) wounds and battle "the Lock" and Smith took no mercy as he set down for 22 minutes and set a record for highest winning percentage (88.8%) in a PDA tournament winning 16 out of 18 games and destroying the opposition (Murphy) 4 games to 0 games (150-75, 150-145, 150-60, 150-140). When I spoke with Robin "the nice guy" Murphy he seemed happy to get out of the ring alive as he was walking away happy with his 2nd place finish, he said "if you see me in a fight with a bear, HELP ME!!!!"
