Keith sets the Pace
ImageOn Saturday, June 23rd, 2007 in Sacramento, California the PDA held it's 10th tournament of the season, and with only two remaining tournaments, there are so many interesting stories to tell.

One of these tales starts off as the David and Goliath story.

Mark McRae stars as our "David" and Keith Pace stars as our "Goliath". As keeping true to their namesakes; Mark has only played in four PDA tournaments; making him the new kid on the block...the underdog...hence our David.

Keith Pace on the other hand played in tournaments last season. This season he has placed in the top six at least four times, has played in at least eight tournaments, is ranked in the top five, plays on the #1 team, the Bay Area Bone Slammers, and is widely seen as one of the best players in the PDA...hence...our Goliath.

In order for these two guys to meet they had to take two varied roads and face eleven different opponents. Mark McRae's journey starts in the second round. His first opponent was Robert Kelley who by all accounts is no slouch on the domino table. With Mark's elimination seeming imminent and Robert only needing 25 points to win game 5, the Domino Gods smiled on Mark and changed his fate. Final score...150/125.

One down...five to go.

Next up for Mr. McRae, was PDA veteran Karo Player (last season top 10 player). Karo finished in 6th place in the preceding tournament and was poised to take this one by storm. However...Mr. Player didn't recognize the powerful and changing light of the Domino Gods and how brightly they were shining upon our "David" until it was time for him to step away from the table. He didn't have to leave the building, but he had to get the hell up from the table.

Round 4 pitted McRae against heavy hitter and PDA sensation Alex Esver. Esver is currently the #2 player in the PDA, has finished 1st and 2nd place this year, as well as socking away two more top 4 finishes under his belt. More importantly, he had just finished givin' Joe Cagno a piece of his domino mind 3 games to...NONE, and was confident and prepared to administer the same beat down to Mr. McRae. However...things ain't always as they seem. Esver quickly found out he was up against no mere mortal, and fell pray to "David's" unrelenting winning streak 3 games to...ONE.

Dropping in on Round 5 we found our hero in distress once again, as Rasheed Vanzant could care less about the Domino Gods. Their light and all that other brew-ha-ha, all seemed to be lost...McRae was going down. Vanzant needed 20 points to win game 5, and McRae needed 40. All of a sudden, the lights, the Gods, the people, the game, all gave focus to our hero, and delivered him another "against all odds" victory.

Silence.

Round 6.

MCRAE VS MILBURN. Hot off an impressive, never mind hard fought victory, McRae prepared to go to battle with yet another 2nd place finisher, and brother from the same team as Esver (Bay Area Bone Slammers ~ the PDA's #1 team). Our hero manhandled him with no respect and closed out this round with 3 to 1 victory. The result of this win led our hero to the coliseum where he would meet his Goliath face to face.

We all know the story of David and Goliath. Keith Pace doesn't read much...but he does play dominos and on this day, Chris Lee found out exactly how well he plays as he was Dominated 3 games to 1.

In round 4, Kevin LaPointe was "crack-a-lacked" 3 games to none. In round 5, fellow Bone Slammer Keith Morgan was "slam bammed thank you Ma'amed" 3 games to none, and in round 6 Rock Johnson started off an "Obvious Giant", and left as a "Peculiar Midget" as he got dealt with 3 games to 1.

Keith was on "Pace" to sweep the tournament but this Goliath had to face his David first. McRae brought the intensity of the "lights", the power of the Gods, the voice of the people, the strength of his game, and stood steadfast and strong with his sword held high in the attempt to bring home the final victory.

As I said before...

Keith Pace doesn't read much. So much for our modern day Goliath.

He ignored the lights, with UV sunglasses. He denied the power of the Gods with simple yet effective strategies; he silenced the voice of the people with his mighty roar. He desecrated David's game with vicious fervor. And just like that ~ 4 games to none ~ our David and Goliath story comes to an end.

The moral of this story is if you believe in fairy tales, and like happily ever afters, you need to understand that sometimes the hare crosses the finish line and the tortoise just dies.
